Villa could hardly have asked for a better start when they were awarded a penalty inside the opening minute. However, the Rowhedge goalkeeper produced an excellent save low to his right to deny Villa an early lead and keep the game level.

The task became even tougher for Rowhedge midway through the first half when one of their players received a second yellow card and was sent off. Villa pushed forward looking to make their numerical advantage count, but the ten men of Rowhedge defended resolutely and refused to give in.

Despite being down to ten players, it was Rowhedge who came closest in open play, striking the post against the run of play. Neither side could find the breakthrough in normal time, and the final headed into extra time with everything still to play for.

The additional thirty minutes could not separate the sides either. Right at the end of extra time, Fin had a golden opportunity to win it for Villa with a powerful effort, only for the Rowhedge goalkeeper to produce another outstanding save and force a penalty shootout.
